What’s in the name?
Get your pencil and paper ready. Back 40/Back Forty is a plot of land as defined by the Public Land Survey System defining land settled after 1785. 40 acres is a standard size for rural land, being a sixteenth of a section, or a quarter quarter-section. Basically, it’s in reference to the smallest portion of land recognized by the gov’t back in the hay day.

What does this mean to us? It means holding intimate shows for dedicated fans. It means ducking under the radar of weathered artists, conglomerate labels, cinder block concert venues, washed out businesses, and the hullabaloo and ballyhoo of the daily grind. It means creating a seemingly unnoticed, ground-swelled and rooted movement full of artists, musicians, friends, fans, conversations and community – a libation ceremony to the arts with music as the backbone.

The Founders
FlapJack and s00krEEm founded BackForty Presents in the fall of 2009 to provide solidified and emerging artists an opportunity to perform for passionate music fans in intimate and exclusive setting.  For a bit more on the two founders of BackForty Presents, click here.
